To Collage or Not to Collage

Posted by April on Jan 18, 2009

As always, things are changing in the world of photography/album design. It is constantly changing & what has been in California for years and years is slowly making it’s way to NC. It’s been here for awhile but I am slowly transitioning into it because some of my clients find the new way a little surprising. And I must admit, it was tough to adjust my eye to it, but now I adore the new look. So, here’s the change..

Album Design has been “collages” for years, but collage style is getting really really tired.. The new wave - Simply Vera.. no collage - just simple timeless elegance. Hopefully a look that won’t look so old & trendy in 10-50 years. To me the new look is a contemporary twist on the good ‘ol traditional matted albums where your mom & pops had 5x7 prints slid into mattes. It’s hot, it’s simple - no fuss. There’s are no “effects”, no “extras” - it’s just your pure wedding images & nothing else. I love it & to me it just looks classy.. Vera baby!!

But what do you think?? Any & all feedback is greatly appreciated. I have two photos here of a collage v/s non-collage page, but I also have a wedding online that I would be super excited for you to look through. There are two designs - The first is a collage design & the second is a “Simply Vera” design (I’m using that term until threatened not to.) Go to: http://www.evokenc.com/clients -> Find the Cannady Design at the bottom & “cannady” is the password to access the design.

Pretty please let me know what you think!!

Which do you prefer?

Collage

Non-Collage / Vera look

we use your “simply vera” style in our album design.  it fits becca, david and i best- like you said, to us it fits our style and will out last some of the other album designs.

I was sort of on the fence in terms of design.  I thought that some of the collage look was too busy, but then I also thought that some of the non-collage pages were too plain.  I liked the pages from the collage album that just seemed to have a neutral color behind them rather than a photo.  I could see how the collage look could grow on me a bit.

i like the non-collage style. i like how this one still includes several images per spread though. really, i like whatever has a clean design—which you already knew, so i like this collage spread too. sooo, are you looking for an album company that offers pages with square corners to compliment the layout style?

haha, just noticed it’s a vera dress to launch your simply vera page design.

For wedding albums I am a big fan of your Vera style design. It allows your eye to move image to image smoothly and without interuption.

YEAH!!! This is the feedback I wanted!! And so all my buddies know, this was actually Rebecca’s design work - both the college & the non-collage. She rocks!!
